Celebrating 25 years behind the microphone

After 25 years behind the microphone, Manawatū People’s Radio broadcaster Ray Woodley has presented his final programme, bringing to a close a remarkable chapter in community broadcasting.

Since joining the station following his retirement, Ray has become a much-loved voice on the airwaves, presenting hundreds of music programmes while also contributing behind the scenes as a volunteer, announcer, board member and generous supporter of the station.
Manawatū People’s Radio Station Manager Fraser Greig says Ray’s contribution extends far beyond the programmes he has presented.

“Ray is an incredibly valued member of the MPR whānau, and over the years has contributed to every facet of the station. From volunteering, to content creating, to governing, and even donating, he has seen the merits and benefits of the station across more than two decades.

“We will miss his regular presence at the station, although he assures us he won’t become a stranger.”

Ray’s story is a reminder of what makes Community Access Media so special. Across Aotearoa, volunteers generously share their time, knowledge and passions to create programming that reflects the unique stories, music and communities of their regions. These are voices that might otherwise never be heard.

Everyone at CAMA congratulates Ray on an extraordinary broadcasting journey and thanks him for the lasting contribution he has made to Manawatū People’s Radio, the local music community, and community broadcasting in Aotearoa.
