CAMA launches cross-station youth social media campaign: ‘The Takeover’

To celebrate Youth Week 2025, the Community Access Media Alliance (CAMA) has launched The Takeover — a cross-station social media campaign spotlighting the incredible work of young broadcasters and content creators nationwide.

Running throughout Youth Week, The Takeover is a bold, collaborative effort to boost awareness of the diverse radio shows and podcasts being made by and for young people. The campaign aims to showcase the vibrancy, creativity, and relevance of youth-led content while offering stations a chance to experiment with fresh digital marketing strategies.

“With so much change happening politically and legislatively, we saw Youth Week as the perfect opportunity to try something new,” said Domi Angelo-Laloli, OAR FM Operations Director and The Takeover Project Lead.

“Our young creators are telling powerful, funny, and fearless stories — this campaign is about making sure more people hear them.”

Campaign objectives:

  • Celebrate and amplify the voices of young broadcasters and content creators.
  • Showcase the variety of shows created by, for, and about rangatahi in Aotearoa.
  • Drive traffic to www.accessmedia.nz, positioning it as a go-to platform for youth-friendly content.
  • Expand visibility of CAMA member stations to local and nationwide audiences.

By encouraging cross-promotion, The Takeover also strengthens the sense of connection and collaboration across the access media sector.

“It’s not just about views and clicks,” said CAMA Chair Phil Grey. “It’s about helping our stations grow, learn from each other, and reach new audiences who may not have discovered us yet.”

The campaign runs from 19-25 May, with daily content shared via TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and other station channels using the hashtag #YouthTakeoverNZ.
