CAMA welcomes two incredible managers to access media’s shores

The Community Access Media Alliance is delighted to welcome new managers Pip Adam to Wellington Access Radio and Nikki Carrol to Coast Access Radio.

Podcaster, author, and workshop facilitator Pip joined the access whānau in October, taking over from Kristen Paterson, who left Aotearoa’s shores to manage PBS FM in Melbourne. Scentsy consultant and journalism student, Nikki, started the role in August, taking over from Graeme Joyce who retired after an illustrious career in the sector.

The new managers aren’t new to the sector; Pip has created the Better off Read podcast for the last 15 years and Nikki worked part-time for Coast Access between 2016-2019.

“I’m so interested in the power of words in real-time across frequency – how it speaks to individuals but also its community-making effect,” Pip says.

While Pip’s focus for the next few months is to watch and learn from the amazing WAR team while ensuring the day-to-day running of the Wellington establishment, Pip also hopes to meet all of WAR’s programme-makers, communities, and organisations that are a part of access media.

For Nikki, she hopes to raise awareness of what access media can offer for the local Kāpiti Coast community. She also hopes to build a presence in Horowhenua, where the station just recently opened a flagship recording studio.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for Coast Access Radio and the wider access media community. We couldn’t be possible without the communities we champion.”

WAR and Coast Access are two of 12 access media stations that are represented by the Community Access Media Alliance. The stations include: Planet FM, Free FM, Access Radio Taranaki, Manawatū People’s Radio, Radio Hawke’s Bay, Arrow FM, Wellington Access Radio, Coast Access Radio, Fresh FM, Plains FM, Otago Access Radio, and Radio Southland.
