Manawatū People’s Radio welcomes esteemed community leader as patron

The Community Access Media Alliance (CAMA) warmly congratulates Te reo Irirangi o ngā tāngata o Manawatū, Manawatū People’s Radio (MPR), on the appointment of Dr Peter Cleave ONZM as patron of the station.

Dr Cleave is a respected figure with a long-standing commitment to education, community development, and the arts. His deep roots in the Manawatū and unwavering support for grassroots voices make him an outstanding choice to champion the values of Community Access Media in the region.

Dr Cleave says the appointment reflects his belief in the importance of inclusive, community-led broadcasting.

“It gives me great pleasure to accept the honour of being Patron for the Manawatū Access Media Charitable Trust. The station involved, MPR, is a treasure in our community, and I look forward to my involvement in both station and board matters,” he says.

As Chair of the Manawatū Access Media Charitable Trust, Dr Margie Comrie says Dr Cleave has been a wise and compassionate voice on MPR’s Trust Board.

“We’re honoured to welcome him back as our first patron and know he will support in forming closer bonds with our mana whenua and wider community.”

Station manager Fraser Greig says MPR exists to amplify the diverse voices of the community, adding, “Having someone of Dr Cleave’s calibre and reputation as our patron is both an honour and a vote of confidence in the work we do every day”.

As patron, Dr Cleave will play a key role in promoting MPR’s mission and strengthening its connections across the Manawatū and beyond.
